A gag bit is a specialized horse bit designed to provide increased leverage and refined control, primarily used in performance and speed disciplines. It works by applying upward pressure in the horse’s mouth while simultaneously engaging the poll, encouraging proper headset and responsiveness when additional communication is needed between horse and rider.
Unlike standard bits, the gag action allows the bit to slide along the cheek pieces, creating a lifting effect. This design is particularly effective for horses that tend to lean on the bridle, drop the shoulder, or become heavy in the rider’s hands.
CRICKET ROLLER: Great for a nervous type horse with the cricket provides a pacifier and also allows the rider to hear when they are rolling it thanks to the cricket like chirp it creates when rolled.
GERMAN SILVER BEADS: provide a pacifier for nervous horses and increases salivation which naturally relaxes the jaw promoting more effective response to the bit. The beads also roll on the bars of the mouth preventing over reaction to bar pressure.
SQUARE MOUTH: The square mouth provides a little more "Bite" than a smooth mouth.
CHAIN BITS: For a more sensitive horse or a horse that is resistant to bar pressure
PORTED MULLEN MOUTH: provides faster response and natural break at the poll. Mullen keeps the shoulders square and the horse centered.
