Drum-dyed premium leather is a vegetable-tanned cowhide that gets soaked in dye inside a large rotating industrial drum and treated with rich waxes and oils.
How It Is Made:
- Vegetable tanning: The hide is cured using natural plant tannins instead of harsh chemicals.
- Drum dyeing: The leather tumbles in a large rotating drum filled with dye, letting the color sink deep into the fibers rather than just sitting on the surface.
- Hot stuffing: Makers melt natural waxes, tallows, and oils into the hot leather to make it strong, flexible, and weather-resistant.
- Finishing: Both the smooth grain side and the flesh (back) side are buffed, pasted, or finished for a clean, professional look.
